Tourist Information -
Niagara Falls
Niagara Falls is a city in Ontario Canada and it
is famous for one thing above all else, its water fall. Set between
Niagara Ontario and New York lies the Horseshoe Falls. As the water
falls 54 m from the horseshoe-shaped lip of Canada's Horseshoe Falls,
a dense spray rises high into the air. The complete Niagara Falls
is a set of waterfalls on the Niagara River on the border between
Canada and the United States. The city of Niagara Falls is a popular
tourist destination especially with honeymooners and some 50,000
newly wed couples are said to visit each year.
There are in fact three falls - the Rainbow and
Bridal Veil Falls on the American side and the Horseshoe Falls on
the Canadian side. The Rainbow and Bridal Veil Falls are straight
curtains of water falling 55m down over a lip 33m wide. Impressive
though they are, the Horseshoe Falls is in a class of its own at
750m wide from one side to the other and 54m high, most of the water
pouring in from the Great Lakes moves toward the Horseshoe Falls
- this means as much as 20 billion litres per hour can be falling
over its edge.
