Zagreb
Zagreb is a city and capital, northern Croatia,
on the Sava River. One of the largest cities of Croatia and an important
industrial center, Zagreb has plants producing chemicals, machinery,
leather goods, paper, metals, and textiles. A noted cultural center
also, the city has a university opened in 1669, an opera house,
a viberant music, art, and film scene; museums along with art galleries
and the former Yugoslav Academy of Sciences and Arts all add to
the colorful cultural life of the city. Noteworthy landmarks include
an 18th-century palace and remnants of an 11th-century cathedral.
Dining out and disco dancing offer an entertainment base for all
visitors to the city along with the more demure cultural life.
