Corsica (French Corse) is an island in the Mediterranean Sea, a
territory of France. The Strait of Bonifacio divides Corsica from
the Italian island of Sardinia to the south. The principal Corsican
towns are Ajaccio, Bastia, Sartène, Corte, Calvi, Bonifacio,
L'Île-Rousse, and Porto-Vecchio.
There are two governmental areas on Corsica, Corse-du-Sud
Department and Haute-Corse Department.
Ajaccio is the capital of Corse-du-Sud Department, a seaport on
the western coast of the island.
Bastia is the capital of Haute-Corse Department, a port on the
northeastern coast of the island.
Population is approximately 40,000.
Driving in Corsica is on the right hand side of
the road. Hire cars are not usually permitted to be taken off the
island.
