Germany
Germany is a Federal Republic (German Bundesrepublik Deutschland)
in central Europe. Bound on the north by the North Sea, Denmark,
and the Baltic Sea; on the east by Poland and the Czech Republic;
on the south by Austria and Switzerland; and on the west by France,
Luxembourg, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Berlin is Germany's capital
and largest city.
Climate
Germany has a temperate climate, with an average
annual temperature of 9° C (48° F). The warmest summer temperatures
are found in the Rhine Valley and the coldest winter temperatures
in the Alps of the far south.
Principal Cities
The capital of Germany is Berlin. Other important
cities include; Bonn, Hamburg, Munich, Cologne, Frankfurt, Essen,
Dortmund, Stuttgart and Düsseldorf.
Berlin, the city in northeastern Germany is the
capital of a united Germany. Berlin has a population of about 4,000,000.
Bonn, is a city in west central Germany, on the
Rhine River, near Cologne. Bonn is located in the state of North
Rhine-Westphalia.
Hamburg is a city in north central Germany, on
the Elbe and Alster rivers, near the North Sea. Hamburg is the second
busiest seaport in Europe and a major commercial, industrial, and
cultural center.
Munich (German München) is a city in south
central Germany, the capital of Bavaria, on the Isar River. It attracts
many tourists with its elegant shops, fashionable nightclubs, breweries,
and festivals. An international airport and a network of railroads
and highways connect Munich with the rest of Germany and other cities
of Europe.

Driving licence and vehicle documents must be carried.
Observe speed limits, speed cameras are common.
Buses always have right of way when pulling away from bus stops.
Use dipped headlights visibility is poor.
Do not pass school buses when red light is flashing.
Give way to pedestrians on marked pedestrian crossings ('Zebra crossing'),
pedestrians have the right of way, you must stop to allow them to
cross.
Use of horn only is for emergencies only in built-up areas.

MOTORWAYS
Motorways (autobahns) are toll-free. Service stations
are frequent. Beware of complex junctions, take care when using
them.
Many motorway sections are two lanes, return to
the right hand lane after overtaking. Speeds are very high on the
unrestricted sections so be cautious.

Children under 12 years or smaller than 150cm in the rear only unless
using an approved front child seat.
DRIVING LICENCE
UK licence acceptable.
Minimum Driving age 18 years.
FINES
Fines for motoring offences can be charged on-the-spot
or 7 days are allowed to pay the fine.
Offences can include : Drink driving, speeding, parking, ignoring
traffic lights, undertaking, bad language, making obscene signs
or running out of fuel on a Motorway. Speed cameras also enforce
the speeding regulations.
