Caserta
Caserta is described as the town of Neapolitan eighteenth-century (bourbon period), on account of the large testimony of art and structures realised, in the eighteenth-centrury and at the beginning of the nineteenth century by the royal dynasty of Bourbons.
The Royal Palace is world famous.
Realised by the architect Luigi Vanvitelli, it consist of ten representation-hall, library, chapel, theatre court and a parck rich in fountains, that stretches for more than 3 km, with marble groups among which, that of Diana and Atteone, by Canova. Graefer, the most “genial and botanic gardener in the time” has realised the “englis garden”, with plants coming fromall over the world in the circle of structures by imitating those of ancient Rome. Royal Palace has got a twinship with Versailles and S. Pietroburgo, for different and important manifestations of art. Musical concerts and advanced exhibition are very common.
In the immediate proximity there is the splendid Belvedere of S. Leucio, an agile and refined structure, seat of university representation and excellent schools. Within S. Leucio there is the silk factory, known all over the world.
Within three km, at hills, there is Casertavecchia, only example, in the southern, of a medieval and uninjured village, once residence of bishops and of the famous countess Siffridina, a noblewoman lived during the age of Imperator Federico II and at the core of wars and conflicts for the partition of county and duchy.
Within Casertavecchia there is the first and ancient cathedral of Caserta. It has a façade like that of Ravello. The Cathedral, once Franciscan convent, encloses the square and finishes above the back side of it.
