Livorno
Livorno is a city in central Italy, capital of Leghorn Province, in Tuscany Region, on the Ligurian Sea. Livorno is a major seaport and commercial center. Shipbuilding is the leading industry, followed by metalworking, petroleum refining, and the manufacture of electric motors also glass, and chemicals.
Liverno is largely a modern city due to WWII damage. The Italian naval academy, naval shipyards, and a naval arsenal are located in Livorno. Places of interest include the cathedral, late 16th century, but restored after being severely damaged during World War II and the Fortezza Vecchia, erected (1521-34) as part of a fortification system for the harbor. |
