Sweden, officially Konungariket Sverige, is a constitutional monarchy
in northern Europe, occupying the eastern sector of the Scandinavian
Peninsula. It is bordered on the north and west by Norway, on the
northeast by Finland, on the east by the Gulf of Bothnia and the
Baltic Sea, and on the southwest by the Skagerrak, Kattegat, and
Öresund straits. Stockholm is the capital and largest city.
Other important cities include Gothenburg aka Göteborg, Malmö,
Uppsala, Linköping, Örebro, Norrköping, and Västerås.
Stockholm, capital city and seaport of Sweden, on the eastern coast
of the country, where Lake Mälaren enters the Baltic Sea. Stockholm
is known for its beauty, it has many waterways and much parkland
and is considered as the "Venice of the North".
Gothenburg is a city in southwestern Sweden, on the Göta River
and a generally ice-free harbor, Gothenburg is the principal port
of Sweden and the country's second largest city.
Malmö is a city in southern Sweden.

VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS
A warning Triangle is required. A first aid kit and a fire extinguisher
are recommended.
SPECIAL NOTES
Drive on the right, overtake on the left.
Use the horn only in emergencies.
Use dipped headlights constantly (24/7).
Driving licence and vehicle documents must be carried always.
Snow chains/tyres may be required in winter, your car rental provider
will advise.
Beware of wild animals particularly moose and deer.
Always give way to pedestrians on crossings.
Accidents
With poor visibility and snow being constant dangers
accidents do occur. It is not a requirement to report every accident
to the police. However if there is an injury then it is a requirement.
If the damage is limited and all involved parties agree to make
a report to their insurance companies the police need not be involved
at the accident scene. If uncertain, or if the owner of the other
vehicle is not at the scene then a report to the police is advised.
SPEED LIMITS
Cars only
Near schools where posted = 30 kph
Built-up areas = 50 kph
Major roads outside towns = 70 kph/90 kph
Motorways around towns = 70 kph
Motorways = 110 kph but variable
MOTORWAYS
The Motorway is known as Motorvag.
There are no toll roads in Sweden.
If you are driving slowly, you will be expected to move over onto
the shoulder of the road to let them pass, the shoulders are extra
wide to accommodate this. Do not use the shoulder as an alternative
lane, use only when required to do so.
SEAT BELTS
Front seat = Compulsory
Rear seat = Compulsory
Children under 7 years should be in an approved seat or harness.
DRIVING LICENCE
EC licence acceptable. The minimum driving age
18.
FINES
Police are not empowered to collect fines on the spot.
DRINKING and DRIVING
Very severe restrictions apply.
Blood / Alcohol limit 0.02%.

PARKING and TRAMS
Always park in the direction of traffic flow.
Sweden imposes incredibly high fines for parking violations so check
the maps showing parking regulations and zones. These may be obtained
from police.
Trams have priority. When a tram stops and there is no island to
accept disembarking passengers, drivers must allow the passengers
crossing to the sidewalk to pass. Pedestrians have priority on a
crosswalk, jay walking is not permitted.
